The Koala is native to Australia. They are found in many areas around this region. The only places they won’t be found is in Tasmania or the Western area of Australia.
Due to the fact that the Koala strongly resembles a bear, it was given such a name early on. Even today with the information we have, many people still call them a type of bear.
The Koala is a herbivore and feeds primarily on the eucalyptus leaves. They can spend up to 5 hours a day eating.
How did the Koala come to be such a mysterious and amazing animal? They certainly do things that go against what the rest of nature has to say.
Other than zoos around the world, the only place where you will find the Koala living is in Australia. They span quite a bit of habitat in this area, but with only about 80,000 of them remaining there isn’t nearly as many of them as there were just five years ago.
The life cycle of the Koala is one which is very interesting. Some of them live a life in the wild that spans 10 years.
Even though Koalas live in trees, they have lots of predators they need to be careful of. They can’t run fast and they have really no defense for fighting them off.
For the Koala’s, mating generally occurs between December and March. They don’t see to have the natural instinct for reproducing though at the same level as many other animals.
Koalas are often thought to be extremely lazy animals. Since they have a slow rate of metabolism, they tend to do nothing for close to 18 hours a day.
